Tech gaints declare war against Russia
Last Thursday(24) Russia launch invasion against Ukraine. As a result of this Government of United States of America and European Union took a decision to impose economic sanction on Russia. Because of this many companies stopped their exports and services to Russia.
The sanctions include restrictions on foreign transactions to Russian banks. Because of this two US based digital wallet platforms Apple Pay and Google Pay services are suspended in Russia. West banned some Russian banks from the swift system (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication). Russia's five largest banks are affected from this decision. These five banks are VTB Bank, Sovcombank, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, and Otkritie. Customers of these banks will unable to do use them in abroad or do to online payments using both platforms.
US government imposed restriction to export semiconductors to Russia. Semiconductor giants AMD and Intel have suspended to export their chips to Russia. Also Taiwan semiconductor giant TSMC said ,"They will thwart Russia's supplies". This ban on exports will take effect on March 3. It is important this will not effect to "consumer communication devices," including personal computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, etc. This ban on exports will applies only on to industrial usage by private companies, government entities and those expressly sanctioned by the U.S. government including the president, prime minister, deputy prime ministers, federal ministers, State Duma deputies and members of the Federation Council, editors-in-chief and deputy editors-in-chief of state media.
Because of these bans Russia will face serious economic crisis. companies won't be able to upgrade, replace, or expand server usage for cloud computing and data storage. Russia has its own processor business but it is growing and comparing with Intel they are weak. Due to this Russia may seeks China's help in overcoming this problem. But NVIDIA and Microsoft did not comment on US government's new rules.
Several social media platforms have taken actions against Russian state media.
First Meta Facebook's parent company first banned Russian State own media from running ads(monetizing content on Facebook) .Today Meta said that the companies would shut down access to Russian state media sites RT and Sputnik in Europe. Not only Meta TikTok also took decision to shutdown Kremlin-controlled in Europe. EU and several governments request to made that decision.
Twitter announced that it would begin adding an orange exclamation point to tweets containing links to Russian state media websites
On last Saturday (February 26) Google's parent company Alphabet announced that it will stop Russian State-owned media channels from monetizing their content on YouTube
YouTube and Twitter did not respond to immediate requests for comment about whether they would also ban Russian media in Europe.
